Windows 95/8 Shortcuts

CTRL+ALT+DEL - (Three fingered salute) Opens a dialogue box to close individual running applications. When used again, may restart the computer.

ALT+F4 - Quits any open window and can also quit your desktop prior to shutdown/ restart.

ALT+TAB - Switches between programs

ALT+letter undelined in text menu - Executes the corresponding function.

F1 - Starts the Help index for the active program.

F5 - When pressed just before Windows Boots will start Windows in 'Safe Mode'. This bypasses startup files so you can make adjustments if windows won't boot normally.

F11 - In Internet Explorer5+ toggles between full screen and your last size of window

Windows Key on its own - displays the Start menu.

Windows+M - Minimises all open windows to the task bar.

Windows+E - Opens the Windows Explorer file manager.

Windows + F - Starts Find dialogue.

Windows + R - Start Run command line.

Windows + D - Toggles between the Desktop and your programs.

Windows + F1 - Start Windows Help.

CTRL+C - Copies highlighted file/ text/ element to Clipboard.

CTRL+X - Cuts highlighted file/ text/ element to Clipboard.

CTRL+V - Pastes clipboard contents wherever cursor is.

CTRL+B - Highlighted text will become bold.

CTRL+I - Highlighted text will become Italic.

CTRL+U - Underline hoghlighted text.

SHIFT+CTRL+S - 'Save As': Saves Current Document under a new name.

CTRL+S - Saves Current Document.

F3 - Usually opens a Find dialogue

SHIFT+Select - When used in a window will select all files between the cursor's new position and a previous highlight prior to cutting/ copying.

CTRL+Select - When selecting files that are not next to eachother in a windows, allows multiple individual file to be selected prior to cutting/ copying.

Shift+click - In IE4/5 open link in new window

Ctrl+D - In IE4/5 adds current page toFfavourites

Ctrl+H - In IE4/5 opens History folder

Ctrl+N - In IE4/5 opens a new Browser window
