Types of License

Stand alone - one machine only
Multi user - a set number of machines
Shareware - you can trial software but if you continue to use it, you should pay up.
Freeware - usually restricted to non-commercial/ charitable/ educational use
Careware - offered for the benefit of the human race.

It should be noted that the OS itself (Windows, Netware, MacOs etc) is subject to licensing restrictions and a separate hard copy should exist on disk for every machine it is installed on unless a multi-user license has been purchased.

The one exception is Linux. We recommend that you read individual agreements if in any doubt.
