123 Workshop

Lotus' Spreadsheet application was once THE reason PCs were purchased. It is flexible, powerful and follows the same standards as its main rivals.

Excel v 123
Both MS Excel and Lotus 123 are spreadsheet applications and can display sheets in workbooks that perform functions. There are some minor design differences which affect how formulas are composed.
  • The equals sign (=) is used in Excel to specify a fomula that follows, whereas 123 uses the @ symbol to prefix SUM.
  • Ranges are specified as (e.g.) C12:E34 in Excel but C12..E34 in 123.
  • Excel defaults its sheet names to numbers (Sheet1, Sheet2), whereas 123 uses letters (Sheet A, B).
  • True or False in Excel apears as 1 or 0 in 123.
  • To refer to other sheets in a workbook, Excel uses an exclamation mark (!) whilst 123 uses a Colon (:). So =B3+Sheet2!C3 in Excel would be +B3+B:C3 in 123.
